What you should know about The New Church

We are given the freedom, as adults, to choose what kind of person we really want to be forever.
As a member of the international New Church organisation, the New Church Buccleuch associates itself with the purpose and values of that organisation which are.

Our Invitation T he New Church teaches a refreshing approach to the Bible or Lord’s Word. Every story is a parable having a literal meaning, with ethical and moral teachings, but every story also has a meaning that relates to how we can grow in our spiritual relationship with the Lord. Religion is not about ignorance, but the power to overcome that the Lord gives us through the knowledge of His truths. We encourage everyone to ask questions, search the Lord’s Word for themselves and to attend bible study classes to build up their understanding of the Lord and His Word. Or does the Lord now need to be come again in a new way? Many people were waiting for Christ when He first came. Yet His coming was different from what most people expected. They wanted Him to lead the armies of Israel into battles of victory and destruction, and to establish a new government with Israel in power. Compared to the hurricane they envisioned, however, His coming was like a gentle breath of fresh air. The reason people were mistaken about His coming is that they interpreted the prophecies in a very literal way. Jesus did little while He was on earth to change the natural order of things. There have still been wars, famines and plagues; births, marriages and deaths. But on a spiritual level, things were quite different. L ike the first coming of Christ, the second coming is primarily a spiritual event. On most Sundays the service is divided into two parts. The first part is family-oriented and the adults and children sit together in the church. The second part is directed more towards the adults and the children leave to attend Sunday School in the adjoining building during this time. Once a month the adults and children attend completely separate services, the adults attending a totally adult orientated service in the church while the children have their own Children’s Church in the adjoining building. As you walk from the car park you will be welcomed by one of our greeters who’s job it is to make you feel at home. The usher is there to assist you should you need help, and in particular will find you a seat if the church is quite full. We do not have a dress code and people are free to wear whatever they are comfortable in. Our songs range from the traditional to the contemporary and can be accompanied by a variety of different instruments. The children sit with their parents for the first part of the service, but after some songs and prayers they will be invited to sit up front with the minister and hear a short message suitable for them. If you have very small children we encourage you to take them to our creche room in the adjoining building where the sermon is relayed over a loudspeaker and the children have space to play and make a noise without disturbing the congregation. While the adults are listening to the sermon in the church, the children attend Sunday School where they are read stories from the Word and do activities related to these stories. In order to cater for the abilities and skills of the different ages of the children they are divided into three different Sunday School Classes:- Teenagers are expected to remain in the church and listen to the sermon. Instead of joining their parents in the Church for the first part of the service, the children go directly to the hall where we hold a child orientated service specially for them, followed by Sunday School. While the children are attending Children’s Church in the hall, the adults attend an adult orientated service in the church, often ending with Holy Supper.
