You could say it is a landmark on the culinary landscape (and we’re now in Cape Town and the Middle East). Our family business, handed down over three generations, is famed for its quality produce, extensive menu, separate butchery & deli and 800 passionate staff globally. In Johannesburg we’re able to seat up to 600 guests, plus 22 guests in our exclusive private dining room. In Cape Town, we can accommodate 250 guests, with capacity for an additional 40 guests in our private dining room, group events area, Fine dining sandton, buy fresh meat, top steakhouse johannesburg, Fine wine Johannesburg. From age 5, he trained in meat at the elbow of his butcher father Dave and he trained in business alongside his savvy mother Fay. Fay Pick was the first female butcher in South Africa, put to work at the family-owned Farmers’ Meat Supply in the mid-1930s. In the 1940s she met and married Dave Pick, also a butcher, and Alan was born in His first official step into restaurants was aged 24, as a junior partner in Stellenbosch’s Arizona Spur. Today, regional and international tourists and local regulars flood into The Butcher Shop & Grill, where they encounter the same friendly expertise, service, quality and taste that were so prized by Dave and Fay Pick at their counter in 1940s Kalk Bay. The Butcher Shop & Grill serves only the best mature aged meat, including superb local beef and lamb, Argentinian ribeye, Kobe-style wagyu and Dutch veal. Beyond the custom cuts and sizes, there’s the procedure: Look at the meat. Due to the size and nature of our extraordinary steaks, expect up to 40 minutes of grilling time. (We cannot accept responsibility for steaks cooked past medium.) We have two wine cellars on-site: the Pick’s Pick cellar offering outstanding yet affordable wines (endorsed with our exclusive Pick’s Pick label) and the investment cellar for exclusive vintages. Our sommelier is glad to guide you through either one. Due to enormous public demand for an upmarket family restaurant, we welcome our young patrons.
