Built on the banks of the Roodeplaat dam, we offer a unique combination of indigenous vegetation, landscaping and water-front luxury. This body of water and the surrounding Dinokeng Tourism region provides a myriad of outdoor activities, from game viewing and bird watching to a wide range of water sports including rowing, canoeing and fishing. The Blades specializes in events and functions ranging from year ends and conferencing to weddings. Equipped with a variety of luxury accommodation and restaurant, this tranquil getaway makes for great escape be it business or leisure. Tours and day-trips can be arranged to visit near-by attractions. The owners of The Blades are all members of the Old Edwardian Boat Club. After years of meticulous planning it has been their vision to create a waterfront haven. This passion and personal commitment is palpable at The Blades. When we welcome you at The Blades we do so with unrivalled dedication and genuine hospitality. Cool linen couches in the clubhouse offer the perfect summer retreat to sample our cocktail menu. Sundowners can be enjoyed on the timber deck with magnificent views of the dam and surrounds. At The Blades we are able to accommodate all your Conferencing and events’ needs, in a variety of venues all offering breathtaking views. Given the passion and involvement of the directors in the sport of rowing, the entire venue has been named along a rowing theme. Many of the directors have represented South Africa internationally, competing in many regattas abroad, not least of which Henley Royal Regatta, occurring annually on the Thames River in England. Our largest venue, The Silver Goblet Conference and Banqueting Hall, is named after an event at the Henley Royal Regatta, a race which has been won four times by Ramon di Clemente, one of the Directors at The Blades. Our exclusive loft boardroom, Diamond Sculls, name derived from The Diamond Challenge Sculls, a highly prized and elite event at Henley Regatta. At The Blades we feel strongly about committing to our social responsibility. In view of our sporting backgrounds, we have dedicated ourselves to supporting the sport of rowing in South Africa. This process is being facilitated via the Old Edwardian Boat Club. These funds will then assist hopeful athletes in achieving their dreams of pursuing this under-funded national sport. Every aspect of our development, from construction materials through to our operations has been done in the most carbon neutral manner possible. This includes solar heating, water collection and sewage water treatment (as per images right) as well as the use of LED lighting throughout the site. We have also used the most energy efficient appliances available. Natural products such as stone, thatch and timber were incorporated during the building process. Advanced insulation techniques are used throughout, reducing reliance on conventional methods such as heating and air conditioners. All landscaping was done with a strong focus on indigenous vegetation. The Blades has a flourishing organic herb and vegetable garden. In the construction of The Blades careful consideration was given to existing areas which are rich in fauna and flora. We are currently in the process of formulating our Environmental Management Plan (EMP) in conjunction with the Heritage Association. This will give us a full carbon footprint measure, as well as internationally recognized Green Accreditation.
