The Department of Science and Technology , together with the Department of Energy , are joint custodians of SANERI and assist in providing political and strategic focus for the company.

With global energy demands on the increase, coupled with the depletion of our natural resources and the negative impact of fossil-based energy sources on the environment, the issues of clean, sustainable energy and the importance thereof in economic development and global wellbeing have become a pressing reality world-wide. Energy innovation and the efficient use of energy are two key components of mitigating these challenges. It is for this reason the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) was established. The CCS Category was introduced in the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists to popularise the technology amongst the learners and the Educators alike. In tandem with the Eskom Expo, SANEDI’s Pilot Schools Project initiative aims at identifying and unleashing innovation amongst the young people, whilst at the same time demystifying the myth around Maths, Science & Technology. Congratulations are in order for Mandisa, our Scientist in the making. She has demonstrated against all odds that one’s attitude determines one’s altitude. Coming from the rural area with lack of educational amenities did not deter Mandisa from pressing on. SANEDI is proud of Mandisa for setting a precedence in the rural area. Morgan, aims to promote small business growth and job creation for those involved in providing solutions for the green economy. South African Leaders in Energy Management Eligible for New Global Award The South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI), is proud to support a prestigious new awards program to recognise companies or organisations that use an ISO 50001-certified energy management system (EnMS) to save energy and reduce costs.
