Ivan, the other co-founder of the organisation, qualified in South Africa. He also confirmed his status as optometrist in the UK. Ivan practices exclusively at our Sandton City branch. He is a cycling fanatic who specialises in sports prescription spectacles. Not only did she satisfy the requirements for her Optometric degree in South Africa, but also studied paediatric vision in the UK. Jason, our Dispenser, is based at Sandton City where he manages the in-house workshop. Our professional team offer a wide variety of services to help you improve the quality of life. Today’s technology has produced a range of lens options that we, as professionals are delighted to be able to offer. Macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and retinitis pigmentosa, along with other diseases, are causes of low vision. Most people begin to experience difficulty with daily activities such as reading when their vision reaches 20/70 or worse. Our low vision specialists, based at our Hyde Park branch, are trained in the examination and management of patients with visual impairments. Whilst we don’t offer a cure for the cause of low vision, we will help you to utilise your remaining vision to its fullest potential. By providing both optical and non-optical aids as well as integrating strategies for dealing with visual impairment, many of our patients enjoy greater independence and an enhanced quality of life. We have an extensive range of modern, high-tech aids such as magnifying eyeglasses, bioptic telescopes for driving, electronic visual aids, glare control and enhancing filters and, of course, a comprehensive range of hand-held magnifiers. Eye exams are used to evaluate the health of the eye and diagnose visual impairments and disease. Each is comprised of a series of tests that analyse the functions of the eye. In addition to identifying visual complications and eye disease, a comprehensive eye exam can also reveal conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer.
