What you should know about Ergotherapy Solutions
The substantial incidence of work related injuries that Gary encountered while in clinical practice highlighted the need for solutions that would effectively address work related injuries and discomfort. The Ergotherapy Solutions training program was the initial response to that need. By showing people how to set up their equipment to best suit their shape, size and work needs and by giving practical exercise and stretch techniques that can be performed while seated, the program has had a tremendous impact on comfort and performance in many organisations. Office chairs remained a problem though; designs were not supporting the areas that were most important like the lower back, prices were high and quality low. This patented design has taken the market by storm, with a client list reading like a who’s who of SA business. It is also endorsed by the Chiropractic Association of SA. Ergotherapy Solutions’ message is clear: Companies make the incorrect assumption that staff are comfortable and efficient at their workstations. Empowering people with the right knowledge, and giving them the right tools without spending additional resources, is the answer to maximising performance and productivity. People are starting to be recognised as an organisations most important asset, but in truth it’s only the healthy people who prove to be real assets. After running a private practice, Gary quickly realised the high prevalence of work related injuries. He left the clinical environment to pursue a solution, and the Ergotherapy Solutions corporate training program was developed as the answer. Sarah received her Honours degree in Human Kinetics and Ergonomics at Rhodes University. Once qualified she worked at an Occupational Hygiene company performing surveys for various large corporates, specialising in ergonomic assessments and training. Performing the assessments allowed her to see the need for appropriately designed workstations. Sarah is based in Durban and consults with corporates, physio’s and chiro’s in the KZN areas. Tracey Palay graduated from Wits and has worked in many different spheres of physiotherapy. A back injury 3 years ago necessitated surgery, and an interest in products that would help others address back pain and ways to reduce work-related back injuries. Tracey is based in Johannesburg and consults with physios and chiropractors, as well to organisations and individuals. With a life long dream of being a physiotherapist, Angela qualified in 2002 from the University of Cape Town. She then relocated to Port Elizabeth for her year of community service before working in a private practice. While working in private practice, she treated many patients who were suffering from work related injuries due to poor ergonomics. This sparked a new interest to help people in a different way. By correcting patient ergonomics she was now treating the cause, not just the symptoms. Having run two of her own private practices, Caryn experienced first-hand the importance of advising patients on good ergonomics in order to holistically treat pain and symptoms. Caryn suffered from her own neural injury and decided to retire from practicing but to continue to help others through Ergotherapy, because Caryn knows that with correct ergonomics there is no reason to be uncomfortable at your work station. Caryn deals with Key Accounts and Practice Management in the Western Cape.
