In working at the Centre for Psychological and Career Development (PsyCaD) at the University of Johannesburg, she gained experience in general therapeutic techniques and assessments, as well as Hypnotherapy and Ego State Therapy. After completing her Internship Training at PsyCaD, Megan also worked with the organisation as an independent Psychologist. Megan has also taught at both Primary and High School level at Curro Aurora College and Parktown High School for Girls. On entering Private Practice, she has expanded her expertise and experience from a range of assessments and individual therapy with young children, adolescents and adults to include Medico-legal work (since 2013) as a member of the South African Medico-Legal Association. Megan also specialises in Child & Family Mediation (including parenting plans) and Forensic Assessment in Family Law. Through a client-centered and eco-systemic approach, Megan enjoys assisting her clients to reach their full potential in both their scholastic/professional and personal capacities. Megan conducts assessments and therapy in both English and Afrikaans. Through the assistance of trained translators, assessments can also be conducted in the official languages of South Africa. Megan is passionate about working with children, adolescents, families and the greater community. With her teaching background, combined with her passion for Educational Psychology, Megan sees the importance of early intervention and support. Psychological assessment is a process of psychometric testing that uses a combination of techniques to help provide information about a person and their behaviour, personality and capabilities. A variety of psychological assessment measures are utilised to provide insight into a client’s potential for learning, personality, interests, possible barriers to learning and emotional status. All these aspects are considered in assisting parents and caregivers to better understand the specific needs of an individual and to help them to reach their full potential. Family & Child mediation (also known as family dispute resolution) aims to help separating couples reach agreements that are in the best interest of their children. This is in line with the Best Interests of the Child standard of the Children’s Act. Through the mediation process, couples who are in conflict can be supported to communicate with each other about what is important for them and how to make decisions relevant to resolving their dispute. It also encourages separating couples to parent cooperatively.
