Life Talk started when Izabella (author names Izabella Little and Izabella Little-Gates) wrote her first book, the best-selling Life Talk for a Daughter. Thus the Life Talk Forum for parents and teens was born. The Life Talk Forum is a non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness, stimulating discussions and seeking solutions to the challenges faced by parents and teens. Some of the circumstances might differ, but challenges such as alcohol abuse, drugs, peer-pressure, bullying, divorce, depression (and dozens of others) occur throughout the world. Raise awareness about challenges, and stimulate debate about choices and consequences. Empower people to take control of their lives in order to achieve their desired outcomes. Introduce The Tug-of-Life terminology and methodology into all aspects of life, thereby facilitating a solution-based approach. The best-selling Life Talk for a Daughter and Life Talk for a Son (with Patrick Wilson) offer teens and young adults practical insight into life’s various issues and challenges. Life Talk for Parents, (with psychologist Thomas Burkhalter) provides a comprehensive and thought-provoking guide to the challenges and issues faced in today’s fast-changing world. It contains input from a number of experts and it serves as a vital communication tool between parents and teens. She completed her schooling in South Africa and went on to work in Information Technology (IT). Izabella started her own company, spent 16 years as its CEO and after selling it turned to writing full-time. Izabella started writing a compilation of tips and guidelines for her daughter soon after she was born. These writings subsequently became the best-selling Life Talk for a Daughter. Demand from readers then resulted in her second book Life Talk for a Son (with co-author Patrick Wilson). Thousands of emails came in response to the books, and these prompted Izabella to assemble a panel of psychologists and counsellors to help answer all the requests for advice. Izabella then summarized the key teen and parenting issues that were being handled by the forum and this became her next book Life Talk for Parents (co-authored with psychologist Thomas Burkhalter). Then came Tug of Life the unique handbook and methodology for identifying choices, challenges and solutions. Entertaining and life-changing, this is a book that every family should have. Many schools, churches and other organisations now roll-out Tug-of-Life programmes for their youth, parents and families, with powerful results. Cardinal Wilfrid Napier of the Catholic Church is a huge fan of the Tug-of-Life and when it is (shortly) available in isiZulu it will form part of the church's Young Adult programmes in KZN. During the course of running the Life Talk Forum, the thousands of stories shared with Izabella led her to realize that a large percentage of all the heartache being experienced by teens is avoidable and unnecessary. This realization ignited the passion that she now has for raising awareness about these issues (and the related choices and consequences) and for exploring solutions. She is a frequent guest on radio and TV programmes, and gives many talks and workshops on related subjects. Patrick runs a company in the IT industry and has written a work of fiction for teenagers. He works primarily in private practice, both as an adult psychotherapist and as a family consultant, and serves as a case consultant at the Johannesburg Parent and Child Counselling Centre.
